Lauren Holly was born Lauren Michael Holly on the 28th of October 1963 in Bristol, Pennysylvania. Her father is a professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and her mother is a professor of art history at the University of Rochester. Lauren was raised in New York. She graduated in 1981 at the Geneva High School and in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the Sarah Lawrence College.

Lauren started acting when she was twenty three on the soap opera All My Children. She appeared as Julie Chandler from 1986 to 1989. In 1990, she then appeared as Betty on the series Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again. This was followed by many film and television roles including her well loved portrayal of Mary Swanson in Dumb and Dumber and her acclaimed performance as Linda Lee Cadwell, the wife of Bruce Lee, in the film Dragon

Laura has been married three times. She is currently married to Francis Greco whom she married in 2001 and has three children with him. Then she married comedy actor Jim Carrey in 1996.
